Jan van Steen

Jan van Steen has been a part-time researcher (one day per week) with the Science System Assessment division since January 2007. He is on secondment from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, where he is involved in quantitative information provision to support the formulation of science policy. Jan has been on the ministry's staff since 1989.
Jan van Steen's work at the Rathenau Institute involves compiling the 'Facts and Figures' publications examining the various components and aspects of the science system. He is also responsible for a project which seeks to improve information provision about the Dutch science system based on a full analysis of the current situation.
Academic background and career
Jan studied Psychology at Utrecht University, specializing in social psychology and the psychology of the organization. On graduation he joined the staff of the Education Research department at the Ministry of Education, where he was deputy head of department. He has since pursued a full career specializing in science policy.
