Pleun van Arensbergen

Pleun van Arensbergen has been a junior researcher with the Science System Assessment division since January 2008. She is currently examining group decision-making processes within scientific organizations, with special reference to quality assessment and successful grant applications.
Pleun was also involved in implementing a pilot for the 'Evaluating Research in Context' project (ERiC). ERiC is a national platform which promotes the quality of research, both in scientific and social terms. The pilot, concerned with law and jurisprudence, attempted to evaluate research in this field in a way which is appropriate to the specific nature of the discipline. The pilot has now entered its next phase under the leadership of Stefan de Jong and Tilo Propp.
Academic background and career
Pleun studied Cultural Anthropology and Cultural and Personality Psychology at Radboud University. Her graduation project in anthropology took her to Ghana, where she studied the experiences of Afro-American pilgrims who had returned to their country of origin. Her graduation project in psychology compared the coping styles of Dutch and Turkish victims of domestic violence.
