Science and technology frequently raise questions or misgivings. Think of gene technology, or the use of chips and smartcards which the authorities – or even private sector companies – can use to track our movements. The international 'Institutionalization of Ethics in Science' (INES) project involved organizations from nine countries and examined how politicians are addressing public concerns. The project ran from 2004 to 2006.
Best practices
The partner organizations identified and compared 'best practices' within three specific areas: medical genetics, forensic genetics and food technology. The Rathenau Institute's contribution dealt with food technology.
