Report of the Side event at ‘Down2Earth – Conference on Agriculture, Climate Change and Food security’ World Forum, The Hague, The Netherlands November 2nd, 2010.

The session ‘Biobased Economy: global chance or threat?’, organized by the Rathenau Institute, took place as a side event at the international conference ‘Down2Earth – Conference on Agriculture, Climate Change and Food security’. This event was organized by the Government of The Netherlands, together with five other national governments, the World Bank and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It took place from October 31st to November 5th at the World Forum in The Hague. The aim of this conference was to bring together various stakeholder groups to “develop a roadmap with concrete actions linking agriculture-related investments, policies and measures to promote a transition to lower carbon-emitting, climateresilient growth”. The Rathenau side event on the biobased economy, held on November 2nd, fed into these discussions, focusing on the potential role of biomass in this context.
