Allerd works as a researcher at the Rathenau Instituut on radioactive waste management, technological citizenship and digital twins.
Allerd conducts research on the interface between sustainability, technology and democracy. He is involved with researching knowledge development for societal challenges, technological citizenship and radioactive waste governance.
After his bachelor Sustainable Innovation at the Eindhoven University of Technology, Allerd studied the Master Governance of Sustainability at Leiden University. He wrote his thesis about the role and design of innovation ecosystems in enabling sociotechnical transformations to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
