Science in figures

Dutch research is world-class. It takes vision, money, staff and a network of knowledge institutions. To facilitate the discussion of Dutch research policy, the Rathenau Instituut gathers facts and figures on what the Netherlands spends on science and technology, for example. We also identify long-term trends.

We publish these figures in (concise) data publications and (more elaborate) factsheets, organized in six themes, related to the societal aspects of science, innovation and new technologies. These themes are:

  1. Policy and structure
  2. Investments
  3. Personnel
  4. Process
  5. Output
  6. Impact

One can also easily find information in our overview of the data publications and factsheets.

The scientific world is globalizing. We therefore involve international studies in our research and make international comparisons.
