Expertise
Mariëtte is an expert on the international normative framework on responsible business conduct and has extensive experience with (multi) stakeholder processes and multidisciplinary, qualitative research. She focuses on questions surrounding the societal responsibility of private actors in the technology and innovation sector - such as social media platforms and other platform-based companies - and the changing (power)relations between stakeholders resulting from the digitalization of society.
Career
Mariëtte obtained her PhD in 2009 from the Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation with a dissertation on business-NGO interactions and their influence on corporate social responsibility. She then worked as a senior researcher for the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO) and was chair of the MVO Platform. She was also Assistant Professor at the Open University and responsible for, among other things, the development of the Corporate Responsibility for Sustainable Development course.
