Dr. Mariëtte van Huijstee

coordinator
Mariëtte van Huijstee is theme coordinator within the theme of digitalisation.

Expertise
Mariëtte van Huijstee, PhD. focuses on the impact of technology on our society and the social responsibility of technology companies. She works as a coordinator at the Rathenau Instituut, where she leads a team of researchers. Her team's work includes research into the societal consequences of the dominant position of multinational platform companies, the societal impact of new technologies such as immersive technology, and designing the digital society of the future. In doing so, she is always looking for ways to translate scientific insights to a wider audience and make them applicable for policymakers, for example by making a podcast about immersive technology, or by developing a workshop format to engage with citizens on the digital environment of the future.

Experience
Dr van Huijstee has broad social science training and, in 2009, obtained a PhD in corporate social responsibility from the Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation. She then worked as senior researcher for Stichting Onderzoek Multinationale Ondernemingen, and chaired the CSR Platform. She was also a University Lecturer at the Open University and was responsible, among other things, for the development of the Corporate Responsibility for Sustainable Development course.
