Marthe Stevens is a researcher and has been working at the Rathenau Institute since October 2025.

Her work focuses on innovation and science policy, with a particular interest in how new technologies, such as generative AI, are transforming scientific research. Together with scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders, she studies how to build a strong and future-proof science system.

Marthe studied philosophy and health sciences at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she also obtained her PhD in 2021. Her doctoral research examined how promises surrounding big data and artificial intelligence take shape in healthcare. Before joining the Rathenau Institute, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher and later as an assistant professor at iHub, Radboud University. There, her research focused on the ethical and societal impact of technological innovations, including the growing influence of Big Tech in society and the use of AI in education. In 2024, her research was recognized with the Early Career Award from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
