To aid the ministry of Education, Culture and Science in exploring different ways to improve the position of early career researchers, the Rathenau Instituut is organizing a series of focus group interviews to chart the obstacles experienced by early career researchers working as PhD, (junior) lecturer or postdoc-researcher at a Dutch university or university medical center.
Many starting academics experience obstacles in their professional career development, such as job insecurities and a high workload. Our researcher and teacher motivation survey brought several of these obstacles to light. Now we wish to further our insights in a series of focus group interviews with early career researchers, to understand them even better.
Are you working at a Dutch university or university medical center as a PhD, junior lecturer (not yet U(H)D) or postdoc-researcher? Share the obstacles that you experience on your academic career path during a focus group interview with other starting academics.
The focus group interviews will take place on location at the Rathenau Instituut, Anna van Saksenlaan 51, 2593 HW, the Hague, on the following dates:
For PhDs: Thursday September 7
For postdoc-researchers: Tuesday September 12
For junior lecturers: Thursday September 14
Travel expenses will be compensated, and food and drinks will be provided during the focus groups.
