Education and career
Leo received his PhD in 2018 from the School of Human Evolution and Social Change (Arizona State University) in the United States. His PhD research focused on the evolution of human behavior, as well as the structural factors that influence the quality and integrity of scientific research.
From 2019 to 2022, Leo worked as a postdoctoral researcher at TU Eindhoven, on topics including recognition and rewards, fraud and research integrity, unintended consequences of policy changes, and the role of competition in science. During this time he was also a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (University of Amsterdam) and a co-founder of a company that conducted scientific red team audits.
After gaining experience as a senior data science consultant at IG&H, Leo joined the Rathenau Institute as a senior researcher in 2024.
