What percentage of academic staff at Dutch universities comes from abroad? And what share does foreign scientific personnel have per scientific field and job category? In this data publication we share the figures of the Association of Universities (VSNU).

The share of foreign academic staff within Dutch universities

Analysis
The share of foreign scientific personnel varies substantially between the universities.The share at the TU Delft (TUD), University of Maastricht (UM), and Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) is highest (55.6 to 58.8%). The share at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) is lowest with 18%.
 

The share of foreign academic staff within scientific fields

Analysis
Between 2003 and 2019, the share of foreign scientific personnel increased in all scientific fields. Engineering has with 56.1% the largest share of foreign scientific personnel. Law shows the smallest share of 24.3% of foreign scientific personnel.
 

The share of foreign academic staff within job categories

Analysis
In every job category there has been an increase of the share of foreign scientific personnel between 2003 and 2020. The share of foreign scientific personnel is the highest amongst PhD's. Amongst full professors, this share is the smallest.
