University personnel by main category (scientific and non-scientific personnel), per university and by scientific area

The indicator shows the number of university personnel, by university and by scientific area, differentiated by two main categories: scientific and non-scientific personnel.


Analysis

The Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e) has a relatively large share of scientific personnel, compared to the other universities. The share of scientific personnel varies from 50% for the Maastricht University to 64% for the TU/e. On average, the share of scientific personnel is 57%. The share of scientific personnel as percentage of total university personnel has increased at all universities since 1990.

Of the scientific personnel, a major share works in Engineering, followed by Behavioural and social sciences and the Natural sciences. The scientific area with the largest share of scientific personnel in 2019 (as percentage of total personnel) is Engineering. Between 1990 and 2019, the share of scientific personnel has inclined relatively strong in the scientific fields of Engineering, Agricultural and Natural sciences.
