Welcome to the researcher and teacher motivation survey.

From now until October 1, you can participate in our third survey into the motivations of researchers and teachers in research and higher education. With this survey, we wish to gain insight in your experience as a teacher/researcher at a university, umc, university of applied sciences or research institute. What are your goals and ambitions? What do you need to realise these? How does the time you spend on different tasks relate to the agreement with you and the performance criteria on which you are judged? Next to these recurring topics, this year's survey pays special attention to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for research and education.

Through this research the Rathenau Instituut fulfills its mission to collect data to provide insight into the state of Dutch science. Filling out the survey provides you with an opportunity to share your experiences with and vision on working in the Dutch research and higher education system. These insights provide an important base for dialogue. They are used by policy makers at ministries, research funders and - institutes. Earlier editions of the survey, 2017 and 2013, have contributed to mapping and prioritising the high work load in science.

We hope you are willing to participate in this survey. This will take about 20 minutes of your time. The survey works best on a computer or laptop screen. Please pay attention: it is not possible to save your answers halfway. The results will be published (open access) at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

Thanks in advance for your participation.
